10 Reasons Why Cats Are Awesome

I am a cat lover and also enjoy writing about a variety of commercial topics.

Cats Are Cool—Why I Love Cats

I have always been an animal lover since I was a little kid. Unlike humans, animals give you unconditional love. They don’t dump you or leave you in the dirt. I love all animals, but I have always had a special love for cats.

Cats are awesome; just look at YouTube! Only cats are hilarious enough to be the biggest celebrities on the web. What is it about cats that makes them cool? It's probably that they pretty much take care of themselves! Here are the reasons why cats rule:

1. They Are Independent

Cats can be left by themselves for a while. You can take a short vacation and leave them at home. All they need is enough food and water to make it through. They don’t get separation anxiety and tear up your entire house like dogs do.

2. They Can Use the Bathroom

Yeah, litter boxes can be gross, but they are much easier to deal with than poop scattered all over the house. Cats can even be taught to be potty trained on a real toilet. How cool is that?

3. They Don't Need Exercise

Cats don’t need to be taken on walks or let outside. All they need is to eat, sleep, and hang out. A lot of people don’t have time to be taking their pets on walks every day.

4. They Are Good With Kids

The majority of cats are good with kids and let kids carry them around. A few cats don't do well with kids, but you never have to worry about the kids getting injured or killed by a cat as you do with dogs.

5. They Keep Quiet

Cats are pretty quiet compared to dogs. Do you ever get annoyed when a dog’s barking wakes the whole house? You don’t have this problem with cats. Cats that are vocal never meow loud enough to cause a scene, and when you have visitors, they go off and hide rather than jump all over them.

Why I Love Cats

Why I Love Cats

6. They Are Clean

Cats bathe themselves and very rarely need a bath. They don’t smell bad either, like dogs do. You’ll see: After you pet a cat, you don’t feel like you need to wash your hands like crazy.

7. They Can Be Inside Their Entire Lives

Cats can stay inside their whole lives, and never get dirty and bring fleas and ticks into your home. You don’t have to worry about your pet getting attacked by a wild animal when they live inside.

8. They Are Natural Hunters

Cats are natural-born predators. Insects, bees, and spiders don’t have a chance with a cat. Cats pretty much exterminate pests from your house. You won't have a rat problem with a cat in your house. Hunting is a game for them.

9. They Are Hilarious

Cats are funny. Everyone has seen those millions of videos on YouTube featuring cats' hilarious behaviors. They are bigger celebrities than half of the people on the Internet.

10. They Are Intuitive

Cats have a clairvoyance about them. They can feel when you are upset, and they want to comfort you. Some cats know when someone is about to die. They are very emotional animals that love to be held and cuddled with.

They are so many reasons why cats are cool, but these are ones that stick out to me. Don’t get me wrong, I like dogs too, and I am in no way putting down dogs. But cats are the best for my lifestyle and me!

love cats and dogs....they both bring something great to the table. Only reason to like one over the other is your lifestyle...and while dogs do tend to be more emotionally connected{face it, no cat ever meowed itself to death over your grave} not everyone has the time for a dog or the willingness to give them what they need. Dogs are nagging wives....cats are mistresses.

if you keep your dog chained up in the back yard for more than an hour a day all alone youre probably a cat person and dont know it.

I love cats to pieces, but #5 is demonstrably false. My neighbors complained about my Bengal waking them up and annoying them. I have to get out of bed 1-5 times a night to quiet him down. But how much do I love cats? I put up with it.

Dogs are not better than cats. I own a cat and a dog , and i think it has no reason to compare between them . It's believed that dogs have pure soul but it's not true , because dogs life is generally very miserable and aufull, so if their sole were good they wouldn't reincarnate as dogs .

i love that cats choose what they want and how much they love us

WillowTheKitty on January 09, 2018:

Okay. I am so glad to see this article. I can't tell you how many times I have cried while reading "CATS ARE EVIL" articles. The truth could not be farther. Cats are lovely creatures, and the reason why people prefer dogs is that they don't want to have to earn the trust of a cat-they'd much rather get easy love from a dog. This is pure, grade-A laziness. Yes it's true that dogs are more affectionate-NOT! Once you've gained a cat's love, they will find a way to show it. I once saw a comment on Quora that read "How can anyone love a cat in a world where dogs exist?" This broke my heart. Cats are amazing. People just can't comprehend that. Which brings me to my next point- When I state how much I love cats, I am instantly met with a tirade of rants about how I can love them, they're evil, dogs are better. THIS. IS. BS. It's alright to dislike cats! Just don't go ranting off about it whenever someone mentions anything cat-related! Look, I keep quiet whenever you start rambling about how cute your dog is-can't you give my cat the same courtesy?

I have absolutely adored cats since I first laid eyes on one as an infant. I have owned and been around many cats throughout my life, but the one I have now is the greatest cat, or pet of any sort I have ever owned. Her name is Pepper, and she was a stray that I finally convinced to get close to me and she has given me nothing but love and happiness the last two years! Cats are just the best, and the only ingredient for the perfect cat is Pepper! ;)

Ray Fowler on January 14, 2017:

would have to agree with your comments about these beautiful creatures, the two cats in the picture, seriously cute, as cats always are, if you have cats you will see scenes like this constantly, simply because they are cute, loveable, apleasure to have, and in closing may I say I feel sorry for people who do not love cats. they miss out on one of lifes greatest gifts.

Ray Fowler on December 16, 2016:

I totally agree with you. I have two dear cats. people are so very lucky if they are fortunate to have the love of a cat. unlike that of human love, it does not come and go like the tide, it does not fluctuate depending on mood, or various conditions. the love of a cat, is unconditional,. and freely given, and is total. be so very thankful that you have it, it is a wonderful thing,

dude on December 17, 2015:

how can people just video tape a cat get hurt and not help them!!

Spiderlash on September 30, 2015:

Cats are great! I've had cats my whole life, currently I have two gray boys. Great artical, except it's a little disconcerting that reasons 1 through 5 are a bit exaggerated and generalized. Let's not stereotype animals, wether in a good way or bad way.

1 - Cats most certainly can and do develop separation anxiety, and can become destructive to their home or even themselves! Please get a cat sitter or someone to check in on your kitties if you're going to be out of the house for more than a day.

2 - A litter box should never get to the point of being considered "gross". They should be scooped at least once a day, and there should be one box for every cat in the house plus one extra. Toilet training cats goes against many of their natural instincts and is incredibly difficult on human and cat. Litter boxes are made for cats. Let's leave toilets for the humans.

3 - Cats most certainly DO need exercise! Active breeds like Bengals can become very destructive if left to their own devices. Kittens and young cats definitely need exercise! Playing with toys with your cat for about 10-20 minutes a day is all that most cats require to be drained of excess energy so they don't become destructive, or take out their energy on other pets in the house or their people.

4 - Cats CAN be good with kids, but (just like with any animal) only under supervision from an adult. Kids don't know not to pull kitty's tail or poke their eyes and should never be left alone to play with a cat. It's not safe for kitty OR the kid. And saying cats can't injure kids is an extremely false statement. Cats have claws and teeth, and just like any other animal will defend themselves when threatened. Please teach your kids the proper way to play with their kitty (with toys!) and make sure kitty has plenty of escape routes and places where he can take a break from rambunctious kids, like a cat tree or cat shelves.

5 - Cats are generally quiet. But implying that all cats are quiet all the time is absurd. Yes, cats don't bark loudly like dogs do, but many cats are extremely vocal towards their humans, and can in fact keep you up at night meowing, especially if they are not played with enough during the day like stated above. Give your cats plenty of playtime during the day, and feed your cats about one to two hours before you go to bed. That will give the cats plenty of time to wind down and get sleepy enough to not bother you all night long.

Cats are amazing animals and can make wonderful companions for people of all ages if cared for properly. Please do your own research before getting a cat, and remember there are millions of animals in shelters in need of loving homes. Your perfect companion might just be waiting for you there.

Cats are cool, I have three. They are very soothing especially when you pet them. I have three and they are my babies. Interested to see that 50% of the people polled here have at least 3 cats! Thanks a lot of cats! LOL

Cats make great pets. Wouldn't be without one around the house. She loves attention, and being brushed and played with. Love the cat and kitten in the sink image!

Yep cats rule! Shame that ours decided to leave and not come back. Probably found another home somewhere!

Ronald E Franklin from Mechanicsburg, PA on January 30, 2015:

You almost persuade me to consider getting a cat. I'd love to have a dog, but don't want to invest the time it would take to care for it. Sounds like with a cat you can just buy some cat food, a little cat litter, and you're good to go. Something to think about.

Fay Favored from USA on January 30, 2015:

My motto: If you're having a bad day, just watch a cat. If you're having a good day, you have a cat :) Shared your cat board on my media sites. So cute!

Cats rocks!

I don't know about other cats but my cat is different!

Here is a Very short story about her:

She was a cute playful kitty when I first brought here home,

She gets older became more quite and spends most of the time sleeping,

Now she wants to be pampered like a kid!

But she's very smart like Garfield lol!

I just love the way she is:)

Anyway thanks for sharing Jessica!

Thats cute! Ive always loved cats since I was very little..but that's not to say I dislike dogs, I like dogs too but I am just very attached to the comfort of cats and their personalities:)

Barbara Purvis Hunter from Florida on May 31, 2013:

I enjoyed your hub it was very useful to old and new cat people. I never say I am a cat or dog owner because I believe my Pom Sweetie Angel and KeeKee my cat own me.

I had my first kitty when I was two years old and I named her Kissy, because we kissed each other all the time--my mother said---she would tell me No-No and I would still do it.

Cats are wonderful! Reading this gives me a physical pain as I cannot keep a cat again after ours died at the age of 20. And it is true, cats does not only smell bad, they smell so good. I used to love to press my nose against his skin for that lovely warm cat smell.

Just Ask Jess (author) from Phoenix, Arizona on May 17, 2012:

Cats are awesome arent they? I have had 7 once before too. I don't have any dogs right now bc of my kids, dogs seem to always bite them. I never have to worry about it with my cats lol

d.william from Somewhere in the south on May 17, 2012:

Awesome hub. I too love cats. The most i had at one time was 7. They have all passed (of old age mostly) except one that just lives one and on. I have inherited two small (medium size)dogs, and find they do take up way much more time and require more attention than the cats did.

Although i would not dream of getting rid of them, they tend to limit me in going anywhere overnight as they can't be left alone like the cats were.

Every cat had its own personality, and individual behavior. They kept me company and amused at all times.

Just Ask Jess (author) from Phoenix, Arizona on May 07, 2012:

Thanks:) I am a cat person, but I always liked how easy a cat is to take care of. Dogs take a lot of work! LOL

Great hub about cats with their activity. But i would like to prefer a dog.

tom hellert from home on May 06, 2012:

Oh his dad was a Mainer.. he was big and grey and had the M too hus mom was a grey tabby with allot of white almost Blue fur..she was really pretty but kinda smallish she was a smallish cat...I think Pips dad was a bully alpha male cat....Pips kindof a chicken...except when he is jndoors with Darcy.. the two of them think they are mountain lions.. They have scared away deer, birds, squirrels, cats, several dogsand a few kids .. yet they were terribly intimidated by my old ange; fish- black and white and about 6 inches from top to bottom...they would get nose to tank until Gill-angelfish came over... then hey would jump down from the chair and chatter at him but being a fish he was not intimidated...who knew...

Just Ask Jess (author) from Phoenix, Arizona on May 06, 2012:

The M doesn't automatically make them a mainecoon. I have had plenty of orange tabbys with it. Some cats really are clairvoyant. I have heard stories of nursing homes, and cats have laid on the beds of those who are about to die and they did. They do rule:)

tom hellert from home on May 05, 2012:

I am in agreement with almost al the points

we have 2 cats now a mainecoon tabby mix- he is small for a main coon but has the M on his head - he was a pound cat and is a little more skittish...

and queit but can be loud when he is looking for you or the other cat..

#2 cat is my dog- hes a Siamesse too smart he has us trained when we come home he flops on the floor until scratched- like all Siamese he is a talker very loud and always jabbering he comes when called- sometimes hes a chow hound and likes to eat his "brothers food". i think he is pscic- he just came over whike i was writng about him.. even after I told him I had no food- he loves ice cream- too much he will steal a few licks if a bowl is left unattended.. we are contemplating a dog .. but- when ever I mention it the siamesse gives me almost a growl... its odd.

they are definitely indoorsy- i opened a low window that had no screen by mistake and the two of them sat on the ledge peering out side for a half hour until they both turned to me meowing until i closed the window...

cats rule...and they know it....
