Great Cat Name Ideas
I am an animal lover who recently got a Morkie puppy named Archie. I have grown up with all kinds of dogs, cats, birds and even lizards!
Tips for Choosing a Great Cat Name
Selecting a name for a new cat can be difficult. Whether you're the type to research for days, follow your intuition, or just pick the first name you hear, it's a name that will stick for many years. Unless you pick something offensive, you really can't go wrong when choosing a name. Here are some tips to think about:
- Consider selecting a name that is one or two syllables. This will make it much easier when calling their name. Not to mention, there's a better chance of the name fitting on its tag. If you were to choose a name like, "Mr. Bojangles," imagine having to say that over and over again. It doesn't roll off the tongue easily.
- When coming up with ideas, take into consideration your favorite books, songs, shows, or places. Doing this will help you come up with lots of names.
- Be sure to ask everyone in the household if they are ok with the name. I know from personal experience that if someone doesn't like it, they just won't call it that. This can be confusing for the cat and the owner.
- Above all, have fun. Your cat is a member of the family, and its name is important. Try to think of a name that suits your kitten's personality!
One-Syllable Names
Choosing a name that is just one syllable makes it much easier to say when you are calling them. It's also more likely to fit on their tags. Here are some great one-syllable cat names!

I’ve spayed and neutered hundreds of feral cats over the years and became the clinic I take them to requires a name for each, I’ve named them all. I’ve been through relatives’ and coworkers’ names, names of movie stars and singers, cartoon characters, authors and book characters, politicians, etc.
Among the pets I’ve ever had, the more unusual names have been Biddy Bush (a reference to Melania Trump saying that Billy Bush “egg on” her husband by doing bad boy talk); Herbert Hoover; and George Clooney.
