80+ Eskimo and Inuit Names for Huskies and Other Dog Breeds
I am a mom and dog lover who is particularly fond of Huskies.

Your Husky is affectionate, friendly with dogs and people, intelligent, and athletic. Find an Inuit name that reflects its breed's heritage and personality.
Alaskan, Inuit, and Eskimo Names for Dogs
Husky dogs have a proud history as a breed. They descend from Siberian sled dogs and first appeared in Alaska in the early 1900s. Still well-adapted to cold weather, Huskies do well in most living situations (though not so well in warm apartments!) They are great with children and other pets and love to get out and exercise.
Understandably, given the breed's roots, there are a lot of Eskimo or Inuit-language names that are great for Huskies. In fact, most dog names in Inuit are specifically meant for Huskies, though they can be used for other types of dogs too. Each name has a special meaning. For example, Akiak means brave, so the name could describe a particularly brave dog.
When choosing a name for your dog, keep these things in mind:
- Does the name suit your dog's temperament or appearance? For example, you may want to avoid a name that means "tranquility" or "peace" for a dog that is extremely active.
- Will the name still work when your puppy is grown? A name that is related to their coloring is risky because fur often changes color as dogs age.
- Consider whether the name is easy to say and call out. You'll be calling for your Husky a lot when it's time to go inside!

Just a little help on two of your unknown names. Tulukaruq (you've spelled it with a k) is Central Yup'ik for Raven. Sitka was the capitol of Alaska before it was moved to Juneau. It means "people on the outside of Shee" with Shee being the Tlingit word for Baranof Island.

Best dog ever. Truly a pack animal. Loves to lay on my feet when I am at the kitchen sink. That is my Natasha's spot. They each have their own spot. My Nikita loved French baguettes. They love to box with other huskies on their hind legs. They definitely talk to you. My Nikita loved to run free. Only problem is once they get the call of the wild they will climb a six foot fence to run wild. Mine got out and was 25 miles from home when a fellow called me to ask if I was missing something. He said he was Nikita was the most beautiful blue eyed Husky he has ever seen. Natasha was sable colored with blue eyes.
When my daughter was born in February I laid her on a sheepskin rug to catch the afternoon sun. The dogs raised her. If she got fussy they would come get me and whine until I picked her up. She spent her first year of life on the floor with them. She spent that time trying to get to them. She would crawl over to where they were and snuggle. I never heard her cry because the dogs wouldn't let her. They treated her like one of their puppies and would lick her face. I told my daughter that when it was time to marry that she absolutely marry a 'dog man.' I said that because if the fellow didn't like dogs he would never last...and I was right. She did marry a 'dog man' and now they have their own.

Really enjoyed your lens and will remember it when we get another Husky in the future. Our family has been rescuing Siberian Huskies for several years and adopting some of them as our beloved furry friends. At present, we have a remaining 17 year old white blue eyed Siberian Husky female out of 3 we had (2 passed away in 2010). Tasha rules the home and is so loving! Some geriatric care required at her age but she is so resilient and determined to walk an average of 2 to 3 hours per day at different times, must be what is keeping her going and going! Beautiful breed, cannot imagine owning any other breed. Great influence for long regular walks, good for everyone. Enjoyed your lens very much, thank you for your insights about dog names!
