Baby and German Shepherd Puppy Teething at Same Time Are Truly 2 Peas in a Pod

They're certainly on the same schedule.

When I was a new mother, I found it hilarious how almost any behavior my baby exhibited could be associated with “teething.” Were they cranky? Teething. Sleepy? Teething. Drooling or puffy? Definitely teething. Eating a lot? Teething. Not eating? Totally teething. Deciding that parts of my body were chew toys? You guessed it: teething. Of course, it didn’t help that I had little shark babies, who posed teeth before they were eight weeks old.

And maybe my babies were, in fact, constantly teething. But there’s certainly no doubt that the two tiny creatures in this video are. They are chewing on anything close by! (Let’s just hope it doesn’t include each other.)

In this video, we see a small baby sitting in a molded play seat on the carpet next to a German Shepherd puppy. Though there are a variety of shape and sensory toys on the tray in front of her, her attention is all on a remote control she’s somehow gotten ahold of and is in the business of chewing.

(My kids also liked to teeth on remote controls. And phone cases. What gives?)

Meanwhile, a German Shepherd sits nearby, chewing happily on the edge of the baby’s tray.

“I swear they both have teething toys,” writes their mom in the caption.

The baby, Juniper, and the dog, Oakley, are being raised side by side. And though I have to tip my hat to a mom who braved not only a new baby but also a new German Shepherd puppy at the same time, it’s an arrangement that works well or them, and it’s clear that the pair already have an extraordinarily special bond. In other videos you can see them sitting side my side or lying together. Though Oakley is only ten weeks old and Juniper is over eight months, they are still just two babies figuring out life together.

And breaking in their new teeth.

In one clip, Oakley even steals Juniper’s pacifier. “I can’t wait to show Juni this clip when she’s older,” her mom writes.

“That’s about to be the most protected baby on the block,” writes someone in comments.

Dogs and Babies

Over the course of human history, countless babies have been raised alongside dogs. Though puppies are known for being “nippy,” basic supervision between your dog and your baby should teach them both a healthy respect and way of interacting with each other. In this video, its clear that though Oakley and Juniper love being around each other, Oakley is perfectly aware that the baby is less mobile and a lot more delicate than he is, even if she is a good six months older. Soon, Oakley will be a grown dog, but Juniper has years and years of her own “puppy” childhood stage ahead of her, and we’re sure that Oakley will be an excellent companion.

German Shepherd Puppies

At ten weeks, most German Shepherd puppies are already in the twenty to twenty-five-pound range, so it’s important for Oakley to quickly learn boundaries and rules when it comes to not accidentally nocking his favorite sister down. Like many large dogs, German Shepherds have a longer growing period. Some do not consider male German Shepherds to be full grown until they are three years old.
