Cat Mourning the End of the Christmas Tree Is Everyone in January

We feel your pain, buddy.

A lot of us humans experience the post-holiday blues. Gone are all the twinkling lights that make everything look so magical. The presents have all been open. It's also pretty hard to come up with an excuse to eat sugar cookies and drink cocktails for lunch at 1 pm on a Wednesday when a lot of us have actual jobs and the Christmas vacation is over.

We aren't the only ones who are bummed the festive season is over, because this cat is experiencing her own version of the post-holiday slump. Check it out.

The sweet Bengal kitty that belongs to TikTok user @floundercat has no interest in saying goodbye to Christmas either!

@Rachel comments, "Normalize trees of life… hang things you love, maybe even use? I miss my tree too… I feel her loss…" @Em adds, "Her emotional support Christmas tree!"

So what is a pet parent to do? I guess you could leave the tree up year round but personally that always seemed odd to me, like people who make a Valentine's Tree and an Easter tree? That just always seemed like someone was too lazy to take down the Christmas tree, LOL, no shade, really.

Can Pets Experience Seasonal Depression?

According to Pet MD, these winter doldrums don't affect our furry friends. Currently, there’s no evidence indicating that dogs get seasonal affective disorder or seasonal depression. The same is true for cats.

The condition in humans is believed to be triggered by shortened days and decreased amount of sunlight, which lowers the amount of serotonin and increases Melatonin levels. This triggers the desire to sleep more and can influence mood changes.

So your furry friend may seem to sleep or eat more but they don't get all January sad like us humans do. Unless you take away their beloved Christmas tree!

You can try cheering your fur baby up by putting a cat tree where the holiday tree was, adding a window ledge so they can watch the winter wildlife, or scattering some fun new toys like crinkle balls and catnip mouse in the same area.

And then get him a calendar so you can mark down the days until next Christmas together, LOL!
