Chihuahua Mix Returned to Shelter 4 Times Simply for 'Being Too Happy' Is Breaking People's Hearts

His energy and excitement over having a home was too much.

It's impossible to imagine why people surrender their dogs. Especially Echo! The Chihuahua mix has been surrendered four times back to the shelter. But the reason why has people in the comments section so confused.

From the outside, Echo looks like the perfect dog. Which only makes this whole thing so much more perplexing.

The dog is back at the Valley Animal Center after being surrendered yet again. As the shelter explained in the text overlay, the 2-year-old Chihuahua mix has been returned "four times" total for "having too much energy." That's just because he's a youngster! Seems like he needs a very active family to come and scoop him up so that he can get all that energy out.

"Even though he got brought back, he doesn't let that slow him down one bit!" the rescue wrote in the caption. "He is so happy all the time and can be such a playful cutie. Playing with toys, eating treats, and going on walks are just some of his favorite things. Echo would be great with adults and children!"

The comments section couldn't believe that Echo was surrendered yet again. "So returned for being happy??" wondered one commenter. "He tries so hard to be a good boy," added another commenter. "Hang tight sweet Echo, your love is on its way," one person assured him. "Echo needs a loving family that won’t give up on him!" one person cheered.

Caring for High-Energy Dogs

Having a high-energy dog can be the best — for the right person. But even if your definition of fun isn't a casual 10-mile hike through the woods, there are ways to work with high-energy dogs (even if you're more into hanging around the house).

There are lots of reasons why some dogs have more energy than others. For some, it's just in their disposition. But for others, they were bred to work so they're never really going to be happy being a couch potato. Things like nosework can be helpful if this is the case. This will stimulate their minds and keep them completely engaged. In this activity, dogs smell odors paired with food hidden in boxes. Then hide the boxes so that your dog will have to go and suss the food out.

If you are more on the active side, go outside! Active dogs will surely appreciate it and they can do dog friendly sports like dock-diving or herding. Again, this will probably make you just as active as your pup. So be prepared to come home tired.

We know that Echo will find his fur-ever home someday. And that person will love how high-spirited he is.
