Recipe for '5-Ingredient Crockpot Dog Food' Is a Game-Changer for Pups

We always want to give our pets the very best, whether that be pet toys, animal beds, or especially their food. One way to spice things up is to make your own dog food. But don’t stress just yet, it’s not as hard as it sounds. Crockpot recently shared their own secret recipe for dog food on their TikTok page and proved that giving your pooch a home-cooked meal can be so simple.

The cookware company (@crockpotbrand) released the recipe in honor of National Pet Day and boasts that a delicious meal for your fur baby can be made using only five ingredients. “Every animal deserves to be spoiled,” the company wrote in the video’s caption.

Yep! All you need is 3 lbs. of ground turkey, 15 oz. of kidney beans, 15 oz. of peas, 15 oz. of carrots, four cups of water, and one sweet potato. And then BOOM —dog food. Cook the doggie dish for 2 to 3 hours on high or 5 to 6 hours on low, and you’ll have a feast fit for a prince.

People in the comments section loved this fast and easy recipe. “The ONLY way to feed your dogs is to make the food yourself… I have several recipes, but will be trying this one… 👍,” wrote @disgo4. “Great idea! Freeze up some daily portions. I’ve fed our dog this way mostly. 14-year-old chihuahua, very healthy, happy boy!” @amejame32 added. “This is leagues healthier than what most of us eat,” @mikeock08 mused.

Although, there were some commenters who thought the meal should be tweaked just a bit to make sure the dog food was as healthy as possible. “I make them homemade food everyday. The only ingredient I question is the beans. Give them everything else,” @lorettaconklin wrote. “It needs calcium,” @Zta1982 advised. “I add rice, too,” @jennisue2u added.

It should be noted that you should always check in with your veterinarian before mixing up any part of your dog’s diet. But this is assuredly a great starting point to making your own dog food. Now, an important question remains: do you think your dog will share? This sort of looks good enough for humans, too!
