Farmer Gives Goose and Her Babies a Shower and It’s So Fun to Watch

They all had a blast!

If you're looking for your daily dose of cuteness, this is it! The Prickly Pear is a plant shop and farm in Sacramento, California. They shared a video on Wednesday, May 29th of a farmer giving her mama goose and goslings a shower, and it's absolutely adorable!

The video starts with the mama goose (Harriet) heading to the shower first so that she can show her goslings what to expect, or as The Prickly Pear says, "how to goose". Mama is already drenched and looks so happy! They goslings approach but find it hard to stay balanced. Harriet doesn't want to miss a minute of the downpour and cuts them all off! The goslings are hesitant, until one brave one decides to take the plunge first. Listen to how excited they all are after their shower!

The Prickly Pear shares some really cute videos, but this might be one of my favorites. The goslings are just adorable! Commenter @Renee Rose shared, "They are growing up so fast. Harriet knows how to be a mummy instinctively, amazing mummy." @pupmom0972 said, "I love they stand up tall while ‘goosing’ hee hee!" Another commenter pointed out, "Her body guard in the end!!" and Prickly Pear replied, "She’s always somewhere watching them!!"

Baby Geese Facts

Harriet loves her showers, and water in general. Mix in some mud and she couldn't be happier! If you follow The Prickly Pear, you probably remember that the farmer recently introduced some new chicks to the family, and Harriet was not happy about it. I noticed at the end of the shower video that the chickens and geese were all together, so I'm guessing the integration of the chicks into the flock went well!

Harriet's three goslings are growing so fast! When we lived near a pond, there were two geese that nested at the pond each year. They always had 5 or 6 babies at a time, so I was surprised that Harriet only had 3. Birdfact.com shared how many goslings a goose normally has, "A goose brood may number around 5 to 10 chicks. On rare occasions, two broods merge into one, creating large flocks of up to 15 birds."

Interestingly, geese will also adopt orphaned babies if they come across them. I learned at CPR that "Geese's well-known parental instincts can apply to all goslings, even if those babies aren't biologically their own. Canada geese, like humans, are monogamous, and couples often stay paired up for life — making an ideal home environment for orphaned goslings. Flocks will foster abandoned goslings without a peep."

I really hope that The Prickly Pear continues to share more videos of the goslings! I'd like to watch them grow and play. Keep up the good work Harriet, you're doing great!
