Foster Dog Mom's Heartbreaking Goodbye To Adopted Dog Will Move Anyone To Tears

It's just so bittersweet!

No one said fostering was easy. It's just that most people focus on caring for their foster pet, not what will happen when it's time to say goodbye. The bond you feel for your foster is real. Just like it was for one woman, whose touching tribute to her foster pup Roger has people feeling super emotional.

It's not that Roger's foster mom wasn't happy that he got adopted, she was just sad that they were going to say goodbye.

The woman was in tears in the social media video she posted.

"I'm so excited for this family, they're so perfect, and they're all perfect for each other," she told the camera through tears. But even the best foster parent knows that your pet's transfer to their new home can be tough. "This makes me really sad. I just love him so much you know?"

"The whole purpose of this was to find him a family for forever and it just makes me a little sad to say goodbye," she added.

Later in the caption, the woman explained that the video was actually shot 2 years ago when she fostered her first dog, Roger. "Did it break my heart? Obviously. Would I do it again? Without hesitation," she explained.

People in the comments section felt for the woman. "He’s trying so hard to comfort you! What an absolute sweetheart," wrote one person. "I don’t know you or Roger but I’m sobbing with you," added another commenter. "By the way he is loving on you, it’s obvious you did a wonderful job saving him," a third commenter agreed. "You should be extremely proud of a job well done for him. A great foster success story. Thank you for sharing."

How to Say Goodbye to Your Foster Dog

Without a doubt the least fun part of fostering is handing the pup over to his or her forever home. But it has to be done.

There are ways to make the process easier, however. Like meeting your foster's new family and asking if you can stay in touch. Not every family will want that, mind you. But it's good to know that you could always check in if you want to.

Another nice way to say goodbye is to send your foster off with something from your time together. Either a favorite toy or blanket that smells like you. Make sure you take lots of photos together and try to keep it positive. Your pup is going to be so loved by their new family. Everyone wins!

A surefire way to move on is to foster again. Every time you foster it opens your heart a little. It will surprise you how much love you have to give.
