Girl Accused of Stealing Sister's Food From Air Fryer Sets Trap for Adorable Cat Culprit

Don't burn your whiskers, bud.

Her sister said she was the one stealing food out of the air fryer, but she knew she had nothing to do with it. Instead, they set up a camera to try to see who was responsible for the disappearing treats, but they never expected to find their cat opening the drawer and sticking in his little head!

In this video, a family is shocked to find that the food has been disappearing out of their air fryer thanks to their cat, who is not only opening the fry drawer himself, but even risking sticking his head inside!

Please note: no cats were harmed in the making of this video.

What to Do If Your Cat Steals Food

Cats are clever, wily animals, and their natural predator instincts mean that they have a high motivation to go after the things they want, no matter where you hide them or lock them away. My cats, bless their souls, will chew holes in their kibble bag if I leave it somewhere where they can get at it, so I’ve taken to putting their dry food in a large, resealable plastic tub. They have not managed to break into that one…yet.

Other people have found that child locks on cabinet doors or even keeping food locked up behind a door that only opens via latch is the only way to prevent their ingenious feline from finding a way inside. Others have even discovered their cats, chilly and regretful, inside the refrigerator.

The Best Way to Discipline Your Cat

Cats do not learn good behavior from punishment, they just learn to fear you. If you want to reduce bad behavior from your cat, it’s best to use positive reinforcement or redirection techniques. This means that instead of punishing bad behavior, you praise preferable behaviors from your animal. If they go after food they shouldn’t, remove the temptation, If they sit politely at a distance when food is present, praise them lavishly and give them positive attention, treats, pets, etc.

While that kind of training is all well and good, it can be harder to train cats out of bad behavior if you aren’t around. That’s why it’s good that the woman in this video is observing her kitty and knows for a fact that it’s trying to get into the air fryer. As such behaviors can be actively dangerous for the cat, she first needs to watch the air fryer to make sure no one gets hurt, and also redirect the cat’s attention whenever he goes for the machine. Distracting the cat and showing him that treats don’t come from the air fryer, but rather from the humans in his life, is a good way to get them to stop the misbehavior.

The best way to get your cat to stop doin g the bad thing is by making it difficult or unpleasant for them to continue.

I recently had an issue with my cat ignoring her litter box and choosing instead to urinate in my front hallway. No matter how many times I tried to block the location and deep clean it with enzyme cleaner to get rid of any trace of scent marking, she always returned to that spot. Eventually, I bought “spike” pads online to try to keep her away, but it proved hard for the rest of the family to navigate that area. After a few weeks of us all tripping over the spike pads, I got a brain wave and moved their food and water dish to that area. Suddenly, she had no interest in relieving herself where she ate. Problem solved.
