Golden Doodle Gives Mom the Silent Treatment After Grooming Session and It's Too Funny
I’ve had dogs who loved baths. I’ve had some who merely tolerated them. But this dog was so offended by his time at the groomers he’s actually decided to give his mom the silent treatment for daring to take him in and get his hair chopped off—and it’s downright hilarious.
In this video, a Golden Doodle sits stiffly in the passenger seat of the car. He’s been freshly groomed, with a tight, short cut that looks great, but may not have been the best experience for him, based on his body language and overall demeanor. Usually, Golden Doodles are affectionate goofballs, but this guy is clearly mad.
Dogs aren’t the type to hold grudges (that kind of behavior is usually reserved for cats) so lets hope poor Meko forgave his mom and was back to his usual friendly self by the end of the drive. Maybe he was just overstimulated at the groomers and needed some alone time to collect his thoughts.
Or maybe he just really hated his new haircut.
Grooming Needs of Doodle Breeds
“Doodles” are a popular choice of mixed breed dogs owing to the fact that the hair type inherited fro their poodle sides is supposedly hypoallergenic and good for people who suffer from allergies. Additionally, people favor these dogs because this hair type is not as prone to shedding.
Unfortunately, it’s a bit of a double-edged sword. The shedding that most dogs exhibit is a type of self-cleaning mechanism. So although Doodles are low-shed dogs, they are also dogs who require a large amount of grooming, either by their families or by professionals. Their coats get very dirty and can grow extremely matted. They need to be regularly cleaned and trimmed, far more often than their shed-friendly counterparts, whose coats have more self-cleaning qualities.
A lot of people think that getting a Doodle means they won’t be not ebook for taking care of all the fur. This is not true—it’s just a different set of grooming needs.
People who give their dogs close-shorn “summer cuts” should also be aware that dog hair is a protectant on their sensitive skin. If the dog is shaved too close, they could get sunburns and skin damage.
When Your Dog Hates Being Groomed
If you have a Doodle dog, it behooves you to get the animal used to the idea of grooming from an early age. Soft shower sprayers, ear protectors to help them tolerate the noise of dryers, and no-tear doggie shampoo are all ways to help make the experience one that’s pleasant and soothing, instead of terrifying. If your dog is truly resistant to the idea of bathing, start slow and be patent. Making the experience into a gam with lots of treats helps a lot.
Whether you are grooming the dog yourself or taking them to a professional, understand that the process can be overstimulating and even traumatizing to the dog if not approached in a patient and gentle manner. Most groomers are animal lovers who are experts on how to calm and control recalcitrant pets, but there are always a few bad eggs. Make sure to carefully read reviews and get recommendations for any place you may want to leave your dog.
