Golden Retriever Has Adorably Enthusiastic Way of Greeting New Neighbors
There's something about the boundless enthusiasm of a Golden Retriever that is completely infectious and absolutely impossible to resist. Even as someone who's more of a "cat person," I can't help but get so excited every time I meet a Golden Retriever. They're just adorable bundles of love and positive energy!
Part of the reason why Golden Retrievers are so much fun to be around is that they always seem eager to meet new friends, whether they walk on two legs or four. Take Dixie, who wasn't shy about showing her mom that she really, really wanted to meet up with some new friends-to-be who'd just moved in next door!
Dixie couldn't have been more obvious about asking for a doggy playdate if she'd learned to speak English, and her mom Sheena (@disshoeciating on TikTok) got the message loud and clear. Standing against her fence, Dixie was locked in on her new neighbors, and why wouldn't she be? They had another Golden Retriever just like her! I also couldn't get enough of that adorable Saint Bernard who had their front paws lazily hanging over the side of the balcony. They look like they'd be a chill canine friend for Dixie!
And as fate would have it, Sheena's TikTok post may have ended up facilitating a potential playdate sooner than she'd expected, thanks to commenter @emilyburdett6, who claimed that those were actually her parents' dogs next door! She told Sheena that she'd tell them to say hi, an introduction that will hopefully lead to future playdates for the three precious pooches. Hopefully this adorable video marks the start of a beautiful new friendship for Dixie and the gang!
Why Dogs Need Playdates With Other Dogs
Much as we might think of ourselves as sufficient companions for our canine pals, it can actually be really healthy for your dog to form friendships with other dogs. According to Christy Caplan of Wag & Cluck, numerous studies have shown that many dogs genuinely enjoy the company of other dogs, and dogs who frequently socialized with other dogs had better social skills, were more confident, and even tended to have lower levels of the stress-related hormone cortisol. Dogs thrive off of socialization and companionship just as much as we do!
Of course, you can't just expect to push two adult dogs in the same room and expect them to be best friends right away, particularly if they have aggression or socialization issues. Especially when introducing older dogs, care and patience need to be taken to avoid aggressive behaviors or encouraging bad habits. However, with a slow and steady introduction, many dogs can quickly learn to become fast friends and join each other on playdates at the dog park!
I don't yet know what the future holds for Dixie and her new four-legged neighbors. However, between their adorable front yard meet-cute and their pet parents' chance connection through TikTok, I'm inclined to believe that their future looks pretty bright!
