Golden Retriever Pulls Hilarious Temper Tantrum After Being Told He Can't Have Toy
Golden Retrievers are known for being one of the most easy-going and happy-go-lucky breeds of dogs. They are prized for their was in training and their winning personalities. Known for being great family dogs and gentle with kids, they’re also a particularly gregarious breed of canine, who views every stranger as nothing more than a friend they’ve not met yet.
This reputation has helped make Golden Retrievers one of the most popular breeds of dog in the country. But just because they are super nice doesn’t mean they don’t have feelings of their own. And sometimes those feelings are sadness and frustration, especially if the Golden Retriever in question is as spoiled as this one, and has been denied the pleasure of a new toy at the store.
Poor boy. Poor, good boy.
In this video, a beautiful Golden Retriever named Maverick is having a bit of a pout. It seems he was taken out to the shops by his father, and despite seeing a “lamby” doll he wanted, his father refused to purchase it for him.
“We have four other ones at home,” the man attempts to explain, but the dog is having none of it. He’s sitting on the passenger seat, his back turned to his father, and giving him a definite silent treatment.
The funniest part of this is that this is far from Maverick’s first pouting session. He’s an absolute diva.
Maverick also pulls the same little tantrum when he’s not given a “pup cup” at the local coffee shop. For Maverick, a car outing obviously ought to result in a special treat. Otherwise, what is he even doing there? Commuting? Absolutely not.
How Animals Show Their Displeasure
Recently, my cats had the misfortune of visiting the vet, and you’d have thought I’d submitted them to torture. They complained in their carriers the entire drive to the vet’s office, and were so upset and anxious by the time they arrived, the vet said she was having a difficult time checking their vitals.
She even suggested I look into at home vets.
On the way home, one of them even escaped from her carrier and took refuge under some furniture. By the time I dragged her out, kissing, clawing, and biting, I thought I had somehow brought home the wrong kitty. Where was my sweet baby, would would never dream of turning a claw upon her darling mama?
Most pets don’t have such strong reactions to disappointments from their beloved humans. Mournful glares are generally plenty to get their feelings across. That Maverick has made a bit of a habit of pouting in the way when disappointed on car rides make me wonder how he was rewarded the last time he pulled a fit.
How Animals Are Conditioned
The researcher Pavlov famously proved that if he rang a bell every time he fed his dog, he could condition the dog to salivate in anticipation of food at the sound of a bell. Remember how easy Golden Retrievers are to train? The plethora of videos of this particular Golden pulling this particular move makes me wonder if Maverick’s parents have taught him “Pout” as a command.
Whether or not they meant to.
