Golden Retriever Big Brother Proves to Be the Messiest Role Model for His Puppy Sibling
Just like kids, our fur babies learn from each other and often copy what their older siblings do. Karina Gastelum is dog mom to two Golden Retrievers she refers to in the video's caption as Thing 1 and Thing 2. Thing 1 is a full-grown dog, while Thing 2 is just a puppy. She shared a video at the end of September of the two of them playing in the mud, and it's the cutest thing you'll see today!
The video starts with both of the dogs already covered in mud, though Thing 1 is covered head to toe while the little one is just learning how to get all muddy. Watch on as Thing 1 seems to be telling Thing 2 what to do to get as muddy as they are. Thing 2 isn't ready to jump in and roll around just yet, but I'm sure it won't be long!
I though Karina's video was just adorable! Don't get me wrong that's a huge mess to have to clean up, but it'll be worth it because it seems her Golden Retrievers are having the time of their lives! Commenters also got a kick out of the cute video. @ADayInOnePlace said, "All I see is the best day ever!!" @Nelly was taken aback and added, "And I thought my dog was a menace!" @KayRic37 pointed out, "Teaching the little one this is how you roll in the mud!" @Leigh made me laugh when she said, "I thought your puppy was playing with a bear! LOL!"
Golden Retrievers Love Water and Mud
Goldens are high energy dogs always looking for something to do, and if they spot water, they usually head straight for it. If there's mud around, they'll head straight for that, too!
The Smart Canine explains why Goldens are drawn to the water, "Golden Retrievers are excellent swimmers because they were originally bred to retrieve waterfowl from bodies of water. Not only do they retain the instincts to fetch, but also the instincts to swim. As such, Golden Retrievers were developed with all the physical traits and qualities that make them highly capable and efficient swimmers." PetMD lists them as #5 on their Top 10 swimming dog breeds list, along with Labradors, Newfoundlands, and Chesapeake Bay Retrievers.
And while it seems that all dogs have a thing for mud, there are actually a few reasons why they want to hop into the mess. You might notice when the weather is warm your dog enjoys playing in mud, and that's because it has a cooling effect; hopping into it literally helps cool them down.
Dogs love to sniff, and finding a puddle of mud is like hitting on a jackpot of scents. They can smell who and what else has been in the mud and what might be living in it. Sometimes a bored dog gets in to investigate all of the smells because it gives them something to do. Whatever the reason, I'm glad that people share these cute videos of their dogs in the mud...it always brightens up my day!
