Huge Australian Baby Penguin Pesto Is So Patient Waiting in Line for Food
The Australian penguin who's won hearts all over the internet is once again proving he's as sweet as can be. Pesto has gained a huge following because of his extra-large size. But despite having a healthy appetite he's not greedy. Nope. Pesto knows how to wait his turn, as video online proves.
When it comes time for Pesto to get his dinner, he knows that good things are worth the wait.
Video shot at SEA LIFE Melbourne where the penguin lives shows the 46 lbs. baby gearing up for his meal. Pesto is less than a year old but already towers over all the other penguins in the enclosure. He's so big! He's even bigger than some of the adults.
But just because Pesto is on the big side, it doesn't mean that he uses his size for evil. Nope, Pesto is happy to wait for his chance to be fed. He doesn't butt the line or force his way to the front, even though he totally could.
Commenters were so impressed by Pesto's restraint. "HE'S WAITING SO PATIENTLY," exclaimed one commenter. "Such a polite baby, waiting his turn," another person praised. "My boy was literally wasting away for a second there," teased another commenter. "Mother I too require nutrition," joked someone else, as if speaking for the penguin.
All About Pesto
Pesto has been a hit ever since he was introduced to visitors of SEA LIFE Melbourne in April. At the time, they didn't even know Pesto was a male yet.
It can be hard for animal caretakers to tell these things right off the bat, but they ultimately did figure out his gender. They even made the cutest announcement about it a few weeks ago too.
According to a video from the Herald Sun, Senior Keeper Michaela Smale knew she wanted to do something fun to make the announcement. So she decided to announce Pesto's gender to staff at SEA LIFE Melbourne human-style, with a gender reveal cake.
In the clip, Smale gathered everyone around and cut into cake — just like they do for human babies. The color of the frosting inside the cake marked the penguins gender. He was a boy!
Pesto has grown (and grown) since his birth in January. He eats about 25 fish per day, which is more than some of the adult penguins at SEA LIFE. The incredible thing is that Pesto is only going to get bigger. Yep, he's not done growing yep. We can't imagine what his full size will be, but he's already the biggest star in our minds.
