8-Year-Old Starts His Own Volunteer Group With Local New Jersey Animal Shelter
It's almost universal that all children like animals. From a very young age children are drawn to the fluffiness and adorableness of pets. They form a bond unlike anything else, which in turn, helps a child to learn love, compassion, and empathy.
But even with how much children love animals, you don't hear about too many kids volunteering their time at local shelters. In fact, you might have never heard of such a thing before until now. The 6ABC story of Ben Rigden, an 8-year-old kid from New Jersey, is absolutely inspiring. Take a look!
Be still our hearts! This is one of the sweetest stories we've ever heard. This little kid didn't let the fact that he wasn't old enough to be a shelter volunteer stop him. And thanks to those adults at the local New Jersey shelter, he was able to create a group known as The Young Friends of the Burlington County Animal Shelter in less than two weeks.
The Young Friends group is for people 14 years or younger. They'll be able to help homeless animals by going into their communities and raising awareness for the animals. Rigden said he wants to carry on the tradition of getting animals out of the shelter. We have to say, he's doing an excellent job so far!
We understand that not everyone has time to volunteer at a local animal shelter. We all have busy lives. But don't worry, there are plenty of ways to help. Donations are always appreciated to help with purchasing food or new cages. Or, if you're able to, fostering is another excellent option. Fostering will make room in the shelter for other animals and it will get the word out about who needs a forever home. Trust us when we say, any amount of community support for a local shelter truly goes a long way.
