Kitten's Over-the-Top Wrestling Match with Toddler Is One for the Record Books
There’s an old saying about babies: the first one is made of glass, the second one is made of wood, the third one is made of rubber. The idea is that as you get used to having a little creature like a baby around, you realize that they are not quite as frail as they first seem.
I don’t know whether the baby in this video is the family’s first, but they certainly understand exactly how tough he is, as they not only play slip and slide games across the tiled floor with him, but they also allow him to play wrestle with he family cat. Put your pitchforks down, people, it’s all in good fun.
The video begins with a baby flying across the screen, giggling his head off. He’s sliding on a slick, tiled floor, and clearly having the time of his young life. And he’s not alone—soon enough, a tabby cat comes in to pounce , leaping around and interacting with the baby in a playful, gentle manner.
Learning How to Be Gentle
This is a cat, and baby, who both know exactly how to play with each other in a safe and kind manner.
“Now there are two very well-behaved babies,” said one person in the comments.
Others agree. “The kitty paws are so gentle, and the baby hands aren't grabbing and yanking. Those two are gonna be buds for life.”
And a third predicts great things for their future as well. “We got my toddler a kitten and it was so fun to watch them grow together and play. She was so patient with the toddler crazy and now they are besties. That cat sleeps with her and only her.”
And though this is a video of a baby doing something wild on the internet, people are being remarkably chill about this kid being slid across the floor.
“I swear dads think their kids are made of rocks,” says the kid’s mom.
Cats and Babies
Unfortunately, there are many superstitions about cats and babies living together that make folks think such harmonious interactions are not possible, and leave loving house cats homeless when new humans come along.
Let’s be perfectly clear. These superstitions are not true. It is safe to have a well-behaved cat in the home with babies and young children. Cats are not interested in “stealing baby’s breath” and they will not go after the baby due to their mouths smelling like milk. Properly trained and supervised cats can make excellent companions for babies and countless babies have grown up in cat-friendly households and have had their lives enriched in myriad ways by making a pet a part of their lives from the very start.
Not only should cats be trained to be gentle and patient around tiny humans, but babies, too, should be taught from an early age to “pet nice” and to be gentle around their feline companions. No whisker-pulling allowed!
“Anybody who thinks cats don’t love their people have never seen one interact with a human baby they love,” says one person in comments. “Mine used to play hide and seek w my kids like she was teaching them to hunt.”
