Dog and Owner on a Walk Attempt to Save Kittens Stuck in a Storm Drain
Even though there are dedicated animal rescue departments in just about every city, anyone can be a hero to animals. All it takes is an observant mind and a willingness to help! One dog onwer and her sister proved this when they helped rescue a trio of kittens stuck in a storm drain.
@Natalies_niche was walking with her sister and Black Labrador on August 17 when they found the tiny kittens. They wasted no time calling for help and even sticking around while all three babies were rescued.
How in the world did these kittens end up here? As heartbreaking as it is to find the babies in a storm drain, we're relieved that there was no evidence of human abuse. Still, no mama cat was found, and the rest of the kittens' story remains a mystery.
Several commenters praised the police officers who came to help the kittens. @Crescentkunoishi said, "thank you to the officers. I feel like a lot would not take the call seriously." You're so right! Luckily, Officer Drebsky and Officer Stasys were excited to help.
And so was Natalie's loyal dog! The Labrador Retriever stood guard over the whole rescue, and it was so sweet to see. We're sure it was comforting to have the pup around during the stressful, hours-long process too.
If you come across an injured, sick, or trapped animal, please don't injure yourself trying to rescue it. Calling your local police department is the best way to go. In emergency situations like this one, 911 can also be an option if animal control or police cannot be reached immediately.
It didn't take long before viewers and commenters started asking for an update on the rescue kittens. Unfortunately, it wasn't the update anyone was hoping for.
In the sad update video, which can be found here if you wish to know the details, Natalie explains that the animal shelter could not save any of the tiny kittens. They were extremely sick, and there was no way of knowing how long they had been without their mother. As horrible as this is to hear, it's a small consolation to know that Natalie and the officers helped the kittens avoid even more suffering.
The kittens' rescue is a great reminder to spay and neuter outdoor cats, so more stories like this don't have to happen.
