It's not everyday that you get to be up close and personal with a deer. And it's even more rare to be face-to-face with one of their babies. Fortunately for Cody Hutchison (@coca_cody17), his son got to experience one of these once-in-a-lifetime moments and then shared the results online.
Hutchison is a self-professed "South Dakota rancher," which means life is never boring. He and his son were out on the ranch one day when they were greeted by a huge surprise: a baby fawn. Hutchison's son even tried to give the baby deer a quick pat on the head. And don't worry, he was very gentle. "Well that was pretty cool… momma deer was close by keeping an eye on her," Hutchison wrote in the video's caption. Check out the look on his son's face when he finally gets to give the fawn a pat. So cute!
The comments section was all over this unlikely pairing. "Omg when he bent down to make eye contact, what a sweet soul," @erinmcphersonbisc wrote. "They are gonna remember this for their whole life," @tortoiserebel88 added. "The way the fawn wagged his little tail," @ohshitlookwhoshere noted. "That was awesome!! Little man was all smiles!!" @donjennings225 chimed in.
Although a few people warned that this probably shouldn't be tried by anyone else. "Don’t touch them. A human scent can make the moms disown them!"@stephuhnee13 explained. "You're lucky Mama didn't attack!! Do not try this at home," @ingascofield500 added. "Very lucky the momma didn't come after him," @pickensdrp agreed.

Thankfully, both the boy and the baby deer were perfectly a-okay during the interaction. But to play it on the safe side, if you see a baby deer out in the wild it's probably best to leave them be.
