Sweet Backstory on Dave Portnoy's 'Miss Peaches' Will Melt Anyone's Heart
By now there's pretty much no one who isn't aware of Miss. Peaches — the adorable dog rescued by Barstool Sports president Dave Portnoy. She's won over so many hearts! But do you know the backstory of Miss. Peaches' life before she became a social media sensation? It's actually a pretty incredible story, as recently shared by the shelter who saved her in Atlanta, Georgia.
The life Miss. Peaches led back in Georgia looks mighty different than how she lives now.
The LifeLine Animal Project made a video sharing the full details of Miss. Peaches story in a recent TikTok video. Like did you know that before she became Miss. Peaches, she was known as Dubai? Yep, it's true.
"She came in from a neglect situation where we noticed she had patches of hair that were missing, itchy skin, and obvious signs of having had multiple litters of puppies," a voiceover on the clip explained.
When they took her in, Miss. Peaches needed to be in a place where she would get "TLC and recover." Someone looking to foster Miss. Peaches quickly stepped up and within three weeks the dog was doing much better.
"Peaches was healing," the voiceover added. She also gained two "siblings" in foster care named Lana and Chestnut, which really helped her on her journey.
The foster family was then contacted by Jet Wag Animal Rescue, which put her into contact with Portnoy.
Miss. Peaches and Dave Portnoy
Well, we all know how the rest of the story went. Portnoy adopted Miss. Peaches and they took to each other immediately. Her life changed overnight!
Portnoy went to pick Miss. Peaches up from her foster mom in a parking lot on Valentine's Day. Ever since they've been inseparable. Portnoy has been documenting most of their first week together on social media. He even shared a major breakthrough for Miss. Peaches — the day that she finally stopped being afraid of the stairs!
The video that Portnoy shared on February 20 shows the dog hesitantly looking down from the top of the staircase. After a little coaxing from her new dad, the pup timidly made her way down. Wahoo! She did it.
Miss. Peaches has become so popular on Portnoy's page that he's actually had to address it with his followers.
"You're going to have to take some content without Miss. Peaches," he said in the TikTok video from February 20. "I can't just exploit Miss. Peaches," he joked. But the people have spoken and the people want Miss. Peaches!
Portnoy has also started a campaign to help raise money for Lifeline Animal Project. Barstool is now selling t-shirts and hoodies where 100 percent of the proceeds will go to the organization.
On February 21, Portnoy shared on X.com that so far the fundraiser has been a huge success.
"Miss Peaches has raised roughly 115k for @lifelineanimal so far," he wrote in the post. "She says thank you to everybody who bought a shirt or hoodie."
"The money will go to the organization that saved her life so they can continue doing what they do best," he continued. "Save more dogs."
