Pigs Caught on Video Fighting Off Black Bear in Brave Act of Defense

If you've never been to a farm or seen riled up ones at the zoo, you might be surprised to learn that pigs are not the slovenly and lazy loungers that cartoons and other media portray them to be. Pigs can be brutal when roused to anger. Believe us, you don't want a 300-700 pound swine hurdling itself at you from across a pen.

That's why we weren't completely dumbfounded to learn that two pigs from New Milford, Connecticut recently fought off a black bear. A Ring doorbell video captured the bear clambering over the two pigs' pen. Almost immediately after setting foot inside the pigs' home, one of the hogs charged the bear, pushing him back into the wall.

Hearing the commotion, the second pig came out from under the covered area of the pen and lunged his hulk at the bear. The bear scrambled out of the way and ended up in the pen's corner. He quickly dashed up and over the same wall he'd flung himself over only 20 seconds prior. The bear can be seen sulking about outside the pen for about a minute before departing for good.

Owner Kevin David told local news that the bear, which he mentioned is probably still a cub, picked with the wrong pigs. He tells us that Hammy and Mary are some seriously tough and heavy swine. Rebecca Shaw, David's partner, stated that she was "very proud of them because Hammy, the little one especially, he’s afraid of his own shadow and the way he came charging out when he seen Mary tussling with the bear."

We're very glad to know that all parties involved are safe and unharmed, including the bear cub. Hopefully, the cub won't try any more of these antics!
