Oriental Shorthair Cat Whining About Getting Out of Bed Is So Relatable

We get it Norman, we really do.

There are early birds...and then there is Norman— a not-so early rising cat. We definitely fall more in the Normal camp, judging by a video of the Oriental Shorthair having a hilariously "slow start" to his day.

Who could blame Norman for wanting just a few more minutes of shut-eye? If he had opposable thumbs (and a cellphone) we're sure we would've hit the snooze button several times over too.

In the clip Norman's owner shared, it shows the Oriental Shorthair having a really hard time accepting that morning had finally come. The cat owner pulled back the covers that Norman was snuggled under, prompting the cat to release the most hilarious meows we've ever heard. If you listen closely, it almost sounds like he's saying noooo — as in, no I don't want to get up!

"What are you doing? You sleeping?" his owner asked. But then she got the picture and placed Norman back under the covers. She must've figured that he really needed the rest.

The comments section really felt Norman's pain. "'Mmm..mrow' HE SOUNDS SO UPSET," joked one commenter. "The initial 'no' when you lifted the covers. I felt that," someone else shared. "He worked tirelessly yesterday let him sleep!!" a third commenter exclaimed. "My Oriental Shorthair did the exact same thing. He would sleep just like that until well into that afternoon and god be with you if you woke him up," another woman explained.

Oriental Shorthair Cat Personalities

Are all Oriental Shorthairs this sleepy? Or is it just Norman? It seems like most of these cats really love snoozing and lounging. But that's only one part of the picture. Oriental Shorthairs are descendants of Siamese cats and are therefore lively, elegant, and intelligent. They are also very social animals. They can bond with humans very easily and you could definitely say they really love affection and attention.

Despite loving their sleep, Oriental Shorthairs are very active. They are sometimes considered little "supervisors" — and by that we mean they'll be all up in your business. They'll also need lots of supervision because they tend to get into mischief.

If you want a cat that likes lots of interaction, Oriental Shorthair cats are probably for you. These cats also are better suited for families with older children or teens. If their need for attention and engagement isn't fulfilled, then behavioral issues can start. So it's best to stay on their good side — including letting them get some good sleep.
