Amazing Dog Safeguards Penguin Habitats Amid Construction

In Wellington, New Zealand, construction is set to begin on new biking and walking paths. Before the new paths and seawalls are constructed, every precaution must be taken to protect kororā (little blue penguins) and their nests from being disturbed. How this is accomplished is with some very special dogs with some very special abilities.

The TikTok account for @WGTNCC shared the following amazing footage.

How cool are Rua and Miro? These doggos are seabird detection dogs as part of the Conservation Dogs Program. They are trained to sit when they spot a little blue penguin or another endangered bird and their handler makes a note of where the bird or nest was located.

TikTok viewers are enchanted by this and @Alien comments, "Good job Miro! We love you and what your doing for the Pengies." @Mischka adds, "This seems like the best job, it has penguins, a dog and walks in nature." Agreed! @Kelsey replies, "This is such an important job! Thanks Miro and Jo! Amazing." @Casper types, "I love dogs with jobs and this is easily one of the most wholesome dogs with jobs I’ve ever seen. Please tell her she is doing a great job for us."

Here's some more footage of these dogs in action:

They deserve all the treats and scratches for doing such good jobs!
