Moment Rescued Puppy Mill Dogs Learn to Accept a Gentle Human Touch Is So Emotional

They've never known kindness before.

As cute as puppies can be, the dark reality is that many of them are born in less-than-humane conditions. Puppy mills and backyard breeders are still a big problem across the nation, but rescue organizations like the National Mill Dog Rescue are doing their very best to reduce and even eliminate these practices.

Their Peyton, Colorado shelter recently took in several puppy mill dogs who are just beginning to accept human touch. No one has shown them kindness or love before, so watching this first step of their transformation is so moving!

Watching these precious babies learn to love absolutely warms my heart! Maybe it's because their scruffy fur and sweet eyes remind me of the cockapoo my family rescued from our local shelter (yes, really), but I know that these pups are going to absolutely thrive with some time and some TLC.

TikTok user @freckles994 knows exactly what I'm talking about. They commented, "My profile is my rescue from a Mill. He knows now. They give so much love once they know!" It's so true--dogs with traumatic pasts might take a bit longer to adjust to their new surroundings, but once they do, they'll be so grateful for every moment of fun and love.

I can say without a doubt that these rescue dogs are in the best hands with National Mill Dog Rescue, too. The organization's mission statement is "to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome discarded breeding dogs and to educate the general public about the cruel realities of the commercial dog breeding industry." They are experts at helping puppy mill dogs discover a happy life, and we know they're going to do the same for these precious pups.
