Senior Golden Retriever Begs to Join in With Younger Golden Playmates in Precious Video
Awww, come on guys. Let her play! A video of a senior dog trying to pal around with her younger siblings is too sweet. The Golden Retriever just wanted to be one of the pups! And people online are positively melting over the adorable clip.
All one senior pup wanted was to be allowed to frolic with her younger siblings. But she was a little nervous. She didn't know where to begin!
Is there anything better than spending the afternoon outside?
All three Goldens were having fun in the yard recently. But it quickly became clear that the 10-year-old Golden Retriever didn't have the same pep as her 3-year-old siblings. She's a senior lady! But don't worry, the younger dogs weren't going to leave her hanging. The younger dogs made sure to stop running around so they could play with their big sister. The senior dog couldn't keep up with them completely, but she got to feel like she was one of the gang.
"The gray hairs are just highlights," her mama joked in the video's caption.
As hard as it must've been for the dog owner to see her older dog lose steam, people in the comments section were feeling really emotional about it. "This made me happy but so sad at the same time," wrote one person. "Stopppp! I know she is included and having fun but I'm NOT OKAY!" added someone else. "I feel like them running to her constantly is them including her," pointed out another person. "They’re all babies in my eyes age has no place here," chimed in one commenter.
Getting Your Older Dog to Accept a Puppy
It can always be a little scary to introduce your pet to a new animal. What if they don't get along! It's totally understandable that you want your pets to like each other. So here are some tips if you want the first meeting to go well.
First, find a neutral territory. Your older dog probably won't appreciate meeting a puppy near their bed or crate. So choose a location that your dog won't feel protective over.
Using a leash is helpful too. You can take the dogs for a walk together or hold the leash loosely and allow the dogs to sniff each other and get used to the other dog's scent.
Make sure to keep an eye on your dog's body language. If it seems like your dog is starting to get aggressive or growls, separate them from the pup and try again another time. They may not be ready yet.
If this happens, don't lose heart! It's still possible for your dogs to get along. You might need a little patience to make it happen, but one day they'll be the best of friends.
