Sleepy Shih-Tzu ‘Demanding’ Humans Go to Bed Clearly Rules the Roost

She was not waiting any longer.

For some of us, when it's time to go to bed we want everybody to go to bed at the same time. For me it's a mom thing, I want to make sure all the kids are in bed and safe and sound before I can rest my weary head. For this adorable Shih-Tzu named Hazel though, I think it's more of a comfort thing.

Hazel's mom shared a video on Thursday, September 5th of what happens when Hazel's ready for bed. It starts with Hazel sitting next to mom's bed, patiently waiting for mom to notice her. Mom tells her that she's not ready for bed and offers for the dog to go watch TV with her. Hazel refuses, so mom puts her up on the bed alone. Watch what happens a few minutes later when mom is back in the living room snuggled up on the couch!

Hazel is ready for bed but refuses to go unless mom goes too! This cracks me up because my dog just puts herself to bed, she never waits for me to go with her. I wasn't the only one that got a kick out of Hazel's silent demands. @libralove072 pointed out, "Hazel said, when I lay down, we all lay down. LOL! Too cute!" @Sweet Mimi shared, "The older they get the earlier they want to go to bed. I respect it." @Chip said, "It’s so funny how they make us do things without ever saying a word." and Hazel's mom replied, "It’s also funny we talk to them as if they understand!" All pet parents do that every day!

Should Dogs Be Allowed to Sleep in Our Beds?

I mentioned that my dog puts herself to sleep, but she doesn't do it in my bed. The idea of my dog sleeping in my bed with me is not a pleasant one; I don't think that dogs should sleep in beds with their humans. But that's a personal opinion, and it doesn't mean that I'm right. Many pet parents think that our fur babies should sleep in their own dog beds or be crate trained to sleep in their kennel. On the other hand, many people couldn't sleep without their fur babies snuggled up next to them. Is there a right answer?

Another Pet Helpful article shared a pretty surprising fact, "About 62 percent of American dog and cat owners keep their animals in the house at night. Of those, about half the cats and one-third of the dogs spend the night in the bed, according to a survey from the American Pet Products Manufacturers Association." That's a lot of pets sleeping with their humans!

There are pros and cons that go with letting your pet sleep with you. It's a personal decision in the end, and each of us gets to decide what works best for our families and fur babies. This is one of the few questions where there's really no right or wrong answer!
