Video of Special Needs Race at 'Dachshund Derby' Warms Our Hearts
Despite being commonly overlooked at shelters, differently abled dogs are just as unique and loving as any other pup. They can find their own ways to have fun and be themselves, just like the adorable sausage dogs at this Dachshund Derby. Their special needs race took place at Lakeland, Florida's Dox-a-palooza event, and we're simply obsessed.
The precious video of the derby comes from @sprinklestheweenie's account, though Sprinkles didn't compete in this specific race. Still, any dog lover can appreciate these special pups and their time in the spotlight!
Isn't this the sweetest thing? We love that these doxies had a chance to run a race all their own, but it only got cuter as the pup closest to the camera started running, too. No wonder the audience got so into it!
"Special needs pups are my favorite to watch," said commenter @thelambthelegend. "They are so magical." Aren't they? These doxies couldn't care less about their differences--they're just there to run!
As Sprinkles' mama explained in the comments, "This event was the biggest yearly fundraiser for DARE (Dachshund Adoption Rescue Education) another amazing doxie rescue." We love fun events that give back! That alone makes the Dachshund Derby even more special than it already is.
Of course, the sweet pup who took off a few seconds later is the star of the show. @Sourbearsticks loved "the way she turns around to look for her dad" before they run off together. We can tell where her priorities are!
