Woman Being Hailed a Hero for Attempting to Rescue an Injured Rat in NYC

It takes a special kind of person to see a rat in New York City and not run away, but one woman on TikTok is being praised for doing the complete opposite. The TikToker, @ahuang30, found an injured rat in her office and instead freaking out, she went the extra mile to make sure that the rat got some help.

Most people see a rat and immediately panic. But not @ahuang30. She saw an animal who was really in need. "Today at work someone found an injured rat. They wanted to kill him but my coworkers and I put him in a cardboard box," she wrote in the video's text overlay. The woman brought the rat to an emergency vet across the street, but sadly they couldn't treat wildlife. "I decided to get him supplies at PetSmart and keep him at my apartment for the night," it continues.

"All animals are deserving of love and compassion," the text reads.

With over 4 million views, people were so impressed by the @ahuang30 actions. "Love you, thank you! Just because they are not cats or dogs that doesn’t mean they don’t need our attention," @adrianalanguages wrote. "This gives me faith in humanity. Thank you so much for all your efforts and giving his soul love and kindness," @typezstudio agreed.

Even Paris Hilton chimed in! "I used to have eight pet rats. They are extremely brilliant and sweet," she wrote.

In an update video, the woman shared that she eventually got the rat to a doctor that cares for rats. But the prognosis wasn't good.

Ultimately, they decided to euthanize the animal. But we're sure that helping him pass humanely was the greatest gift that the TikToker could've given him.

"Rest in peace," she wrote.
