As heat waves roll across much of the United States and Europe, both people and animals are finding unique ways to stay cool. For people, resources like cooling shelters and medical assistance are widely available, but our furry, scaly, and feathered friends can sometimes need a hand beating the heat.
Fortunately, smart zookeepers at a zoo in Rome knew exactly what to do. They made frozen fruit treats for each of their animals, which helps to refresh them in warm temperatures, but the best part by far was watching them chow down. Even Facebook is loving their summertime snack!
If this doesn't put you in the mood for a popsicle or some sorbet, we don't know what will! Seriously--we need a bite of whatever the chimpanzee was snacking on. It looked like a gigantic fruit pop!
This is the true definition of summertime and an awesome way to cool down. For a moment, you almost forget how scorching hot it is.

"Great Idea," Tom Schmidt wrote in the comments section. "Who doesn't love a frozen treat in the heat?" You totally said it. We're positive these animals appreciated the gesture--just look at those lil' meerkats going to town! The zookeepers who fed them look like they're seriously enjoying their job, and we don't blame them one bit.
Seriously, though, giving the animals frozen fruit shows immense care and effort on behalf of the zoo. It's very easy to forget about animals' safety and comfort when it's so uncomfortable for us, too, but these awesome people are setting a great example.
"We all need refreshing at times including our furry friends," Pegi Henson praised. "Good on the zoo." We couldn't have said it better ourselves! Water, shade, and a cool treat can really go a long way in keeping the summertime bearable (get it--bear?), and everyone should have the chance to stay cool. Including the animals!
