I have a huge Russian Blue cat and every time I go into the kitchen or dining room my giant tom cat corners me. Then he meows, stands on his back feet, and pulls himself up on me like he is stretching and wanting me to pet him. I pet him and he digs his claws into me while purring. It's mainly just me not my wife he does this to, ninety nine percent of the time it's me. Why does he do this everyday, all day?
I suspect that you give him the pets he likes. The purring and kneading (digging in the claws in a rhythmic manner) tells me he likes the attention. Cats will knead their mother's nipples to get the milk to flow. The movement then becomes symbolic of contentment. If he is hurting you, you might want to trim his claws. Also, try getting him to come to you in other places, like sitting on the floor in the living room. This can get him to stop trapping you in the kitchen.
