If you’ve ever brought home a puppy, you know how much they sleep. They’re pros at it and enjoy getting their beauty rest almost as much as they love getting treats and cuddles! Barron is a 10-week-old Golden Retriever puppy whose pawrents have started taking him on daily walks that really tire him out. They shared a video of the pup after one of those walks, and it will totally make your day!
After getting home from a walk, Barron crashed out hard. He didn’t even make it to bed for a comfy nap but instead fell asleep on his back right on the hard floor. It looks like they didn’t even have time to take his harness off before he hit the hay!
I can’t even with how cute this video is! Barron was so tired after all that exercise that he couldn’t even make it those last few steps to his bed! He’s just adorable! Dogs need an average of 12-16 hours of sleep each day, and puppies need even more; they’ll sleep up to 18-20 hours a day. I wish I could get that much sleep!
Viewers had a lot to say about the cute Golden Retriever puppy napping style. @Grace Howe joked, “They act like they legit just ran three marathons!” Barron’s mom replied, “And then they’ll get up and be ready to bite your ankles off again LOL!” Another commenter added, “On his back! That walk must have been serious!!” and Mom replied, “Oh it was!”
What Age Can Puppies Go on Outdoor Walks?
Viewer @Lauren was surprised, “You got to walk him?? Our vet wouldn’t let us walk ours until almost 16 weeks because of parvo.” Barron’s mom replied, “Parvo is definitely a big risk but I keep Barron in a very isolated area when I am with him. In public, I carry him in a tote bag.”
Many vets recommend not taking puppies outside until they’re months old and for good reason. If your pooch isn’t fully vaccinated, they can be susceptible to all kinds of nasty things like parvo which they are defenseless against.
The American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior (AVSAB) says that about a week after a puppy gets their first round of vaccinations (at around 7 weeks old), it’s safe to take them on short walks and public outings. That being said, it’s safer to wait until puppies are fully vaccinated before being taken on walks where other dogs are also walked.
Being around other dogs can expose puppies to potentially fatal viruses and parasites. This can lead to costly vet bills or even worse. Waiting until your pooch is fully vaccinated around 12 to 16 weeks is the safer way to go.
