It’s easy to fall under a baby animal’s adorable spell, but it’s not so easy to take them seriously when they’re mad. Somehow, the anger only makes them cuter! Whether it’s Mars, the baby hippo, refusing to go inside, or a puppy throwing a tantrum over their first grooming appointment, tiny animals with big feelings will always be charming.
Marshmallow, the Cincinnati Zoo’s youngest skunk resident, is no exception. He’s already as sweet as can be (especially since he can’t spray yet), but somehow, his attitude only makes him more irresistible. I’m so glad his caretakers caught his September 5 tantrum on camera!
Aww, I can’t get enough of him! I’ve watched Marshmallow’s stomps and scoots several times now, and he gets cuter each time. How do his caretakers and zookeepers get anything done with him around?
Naturally, Marshmallow’s viewers melted when they heard his priceless noises. Not many people knew that was what a baby skunk sounds like! Just like a commenter named Emily admitted, “You could’ve given me 100 opportunities to imitate what I think a baby skunk sounds like and I still would’ve gotten it wrong.”
Luckily, the reality is even cuter than anyone could have guessed! Combine his angry sounds with his tough attitude and curiosity toward his caretaker, and it’s no secret why he’s the Cincinnati Zoo’s newest superstar.
Commenters compared this monochromatic cutie to an angry kitten, a feather duster, and of course, the most iconic cartoon skunk of all time: Pepe Le Pew. As another commenter said, “it’s all fun and games until he learns French.”
Caring For Baby Skunks
Although Marshmallow isn’t ready to see zoo visitors quite yet, everyone can live vicariously through the Cincinnati Zoo‘s social media videos. Even so, I’ll be the first to admit that I’m so jealous of this tiny skunk’s care team!
Another commenter had me seething with jealousy when she wrote, “I’ve had the honor of feeding and handling baby skunks when I worked at a wildlife rehab and can confidently say they are the cutest babies ever.” Marshmallow is the perfect proof!
