Rob Lowe Is Narrating Sweet New Netflix Doc All About Dogs

We can't wait to check it out!

If you're into documentaries about animals, you'll want to check out Netflix's newest doc about dogs, Inside the Mind of a Dog, narrated by celebrity Rob Lowe. Lowe shared the trailer for the documentary on Instagram, and I can't wait to watch it! If you've ever wanted to know how dogs 'work,' this is the documentary for you.

Through the trailer, we learn that the documentary focuses on the importance of how and what dogs smell, how they communicate with facial expressions, and their relationships with humans. And you're in luck if you are interested in seeing it because it premiered on Netflix on Friday, August 9th!

I'll definitely be tuning in to watch! Rob Lowe is an animal lover and dog dad himself, and he seems like the perfect person to narrate the sweet documentary. People left nearly 100 comments, all about how excited they are to watch; @keeno_strachan had my favorite, "Oh DAWG, just when I couldn’t pawsibly like the adogable Rob more, here’s another reason to add to my list!!!" Too cute!

Netflix's New Inside the Mind of a Dog, Narrated by Rob Lowe

I wanted to know more about the documentary is about, so I did some digging. I headed to Netflix, and only found this blurb, "Embark on a delightful journey into the world of dogs in this documentary that reveals scientific and emotional insights about our lovable BFFs."

The Wall Street Journal shared much more about the documentary and gave it a pretty stellar review. Reporter John Anderson started his review out strong, "For the mangy, flea-bitten TV reviewer, there would be no quicker route to ignominy than trashing a show about dogs. Fortunately, even cat ladies will like “Inside the Mind of a Dog,” which has an abundance of furry charm and retrieves a kennel’s worth of information from those sniffing around the cutting edge of canine science." Very witty!

Anderson goes on to say that most of what we learn about has to do with dog psychology (he says, "the tail alone is remarkably revealing." It also delves into the history of dogs and where they came from, how they communicate using their eyes (seeing the whites of their eyes (think side-eye) has a lot to do with it), their relationships with humans, and more.

I also got a kick out of how Anderson ended the review, "For many years, the most popular breed in the U.S. was the Labrador retriever, and in fact Labs and golden retrievers seem here to be the service dogs of choice. In 2022, however, the Lab was displaced in popularity by the French bulldog. Say what you will, but even a Siberian husky would tilt its head and whine at that piece of information." I guess he's not a fan of French bulldogs!
